The 311 Weekend for November 16 – November 18

Hello, and welcome to the 311 Weekend, I’m
Laura and I’ll be your guide to New York City sponsored events and services happening
in the next few days. Before we begin: It’s almost time for start
gobble-ing turkeys and pies – next Thursday, November 22 is Thanksgiving day. All Government offices, City courts, post
offices, and the DMV will be closed. Alternate Side Parking including parking meters,
and trash collection will be suspended. Public schools will not be in session for
Thanksgiving Recess on either Thursday, or Friday, November 23. And now onto the weekend! The events I talk about are free, unless I
mention otherwise. First: The season of giving is upon us, so
make a difference by donating clean, reusable items such as clothing, housewares, games,
books, and toys you no longer need at the Morris Park Stop N Swap event. And feel free to take home something that’s
new-to-you. Second: The holiday season is here and so
is NYC’s favorite train show. Enjoy the captivating model trains zipping
through a display of 175 famous landmarks, each re-created with bark, leaves, and other
natural materials at the New York Botanical Garden’s Holiday Train Show! This event is not free, but it IS pretty cool,
so make sure to check their website for scheduling and ticket information. Third: Take care of all your holiday shopping
needs at the always amazing Union Square Holiday Market, where you can find unique gifts for
everyone on your list. Experience new sections like Little Brooklyn,
the Warming Station, and the Kid’s Arts Studio all while enjoying live entertainment
& delicious treats. See the days and hours of operations at the
link. Finally: Winter is coming, stay warm New Yorkers! You can apply now for the Home Energy Assistance
Program a.k.a HEAP, which helps low-income homeowners and renters pay for utility and
heating bills. Well, that’s a wrap! Thanks for joining us, and we’ll see you
next weekend.
